An address poisoning (or dust) attack is when an attacker tricks victims into moving their assets into a fake address that looks like their own.  The attacker creates a ‘vanity address’ with a unique set of characters that look like their target and spam their wallet addresses with payments.

The victim tried to find out the scammer after the attack by offering a 10% bounty with the hope of getting back the funds.

Match Systems stated, “This incident perfectly demonstrates that promptly contacting specialists in case of theft of crypto assets significantly increases the chances of the crypto fraud victim to get them back.”

It is to be noted that as blockchain addresses and balances are publicly available on block explorers, sending fake transactions to these addresses is relatively easy for scammers.
